My Grandmother's Bed #1

| | "My Grandmother's Bed" ( a dyptych hung with the right side about 6" lower than the left...not shown) is the first in a series that I did concerning my grandmother or anyones grandmother for that matter. Having been born in the late 1800's I inherited some of her furniture ...one of which was her bed...with the old fashioned coiled springs and the straw and burlap casing. When it came time to dispose of it I simply couldn't throw it out completely so I took it apart and have saved some of it over the years. Recently, I came across some of her letters and photographs..thus this series of paintings emerged.
I often have clients who bring me their own memoribilia and I will combine it into a piece of art..It must stand as a painting first and then the memoribilia they have given me is subtly buried within the surface of the piece. | |
